A few weeks back, I was excited to drive out to Santa Barbara and meet with Julie Thounskane for what turned out to be an awesome weekend and fabulous photo session.  Five years ago after giving it much thought,  Julie Thounskane decided on UCSB as the college where she would continue her studies.  It took a while to adjust to a new city, new friends, new school & new job but in time…….  Santa Barbara became her 2nd home.

Julie and boyfriend Jose planned out a couple of fun-filled days for Eric and I.  We drove up and met Julie at Something’s Fishy, the restaurant where she works at. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner and ended the night sharing green tea  tempura desert & a sake bomb! Yes, a sake bomb! I could not visit the college town and sit in the restaurant beside  a rowdy large party of college students drink away the night and not try the restaurant’s famous drink myself?!? Because I’m such a big party animal, right after the sake bomb, we  called it a night since we had to be up bright and early.

On the following day, we began the tour of UCSB and Julie’s session at the Henley gate  and concluded at the Library where Julie spent countless hours during the last 5 years.  It was by far, the BESTEST college tour I have ever had.   (I know bestest is not a word but oh well)    Julie had lots of stories to share and I enjoyed documenting her story as she showed me a glimpse of her life.

We took a break to for lunch and enjoyed  jalapeno sushi while also catching the Heat/basketball game .   After the game, a walk on State street, Yogurtland and a short nap. Yes, I said a nap… (sometimes I nap) we moved to the 2nd location of our photo session.   Campus point at the beach, the place where Julie loved to jog.  Julie loves to  hike to the top to hear the waves crash and witness the amazing purplish/blue/pink skies as the sun sets. It was truly beautiful!       Julie, it was hard for us to leave such a beautiful place.  Thank You Julie for hosting a fabulous weekend for us!  To see more of Julie’s UCSB session click on this video.     Julie Thounskane UCSB

A few weeks later after this beautiful weekend at Santa Barbara, I visited the town again to see Julie Graduate!!! Julie walked to receive her undergraduate diploma at USCB on June 11th. Surrounded by her friends and family, Julie celebrated her accomplisment. As she prepares to say goodbye, Julie can’t believe how fast the 5 years flew by.  As she begins in a new journey, Julie says goodbye for now to Santa Barbara and it’s a bittersweet farewell!
